256	Temporary Burial (14 July 1904): Following his death in Villa Clarens, Switzerland, on July 14, 1904, President Paul Kruger's body was embalmed and transported to the Netherlands. He was temporarily interred on July 26, 1904, at the Oud Eik en Duinen Cemetery in The Hague, South Holland, Netherlands. His remains rested in a temporary vault while arrangements and political permissions were secured to return him to his homeland. Final Burial (December 1904): In late 1904, British colonial authorities granted permission for his repatriation. His body was transported back to South Africa aboard the vessel Batavier VI. On December 16, 1904, he was honored with a formal state funeral and permanently laid to rest at the Heroes' Acre (Heldenakker) within the Church Street Cemetery in Pretoria, Transvaal Colony (now Gauteng, South Africa).
